From Skincare to Beauty-From-Within: A Practical Roadmap for Thai Brands Entering Supplements

Supplement softgels

Collagen drinks and beauty capsules sit alongside serums in many Thai beauty routines, and skincare brands with a loyal following are well placed to offer them. The move is not a simple range extension, though. In Thailand, supplements are regulated as food rather than cosmetics, and the route to market is different.

This roadmap sets out the stages a skincare brand typically works through.

Stage 1: Confirm What You Are Launching

Dietary supplements in Thailand fall under the Food Act B.E. 2522 (1979) and are overseen by the Thai FDA. How a product is presented matters. Claims that suggest treating or preventing disease push a product towards drug regulation, so define the product and its intended message before developing anything.

Stage 2: Build the Formula Around Permitted Ingredients

Check every ingredient and dosage against Thai requirements early. Some substances are restricted, and health claims need prior evaluation by the Thai FDA. A beauty-from-within concept works best when it is built on ingredients that can be registered and claims that can be supported.

Stage 3: Choose Certified Production

Foreign manufacturers of supplements are expected to hold valid GMP or equivalent quality certification. Choosing a certified producer at the outset avoids having to change suppliers after development is finished.

Stage 4: Set Up Your Thai Importer and Registration

Imported supplements must be registered with the Thai FDA before sale, and the importer needs the appropriate licence. Once approved, the product receives a food serial number, shown inside the familiar อย. mark on the label. As with cosmetics, the application is made by a Thai entity using documents supplied by the manufacturer.

Stage 5: Prepare a Thai-Language Label

Supplement labels must be in Thai and include the product name and serial number, key ingredients and their amounts, net quantity, allergen information, expiry date, directions for use and storage, any required warnings, and details of the importer or distributor.

Stage 6: Launch Focused, Then Extend

Start with one or two formats that connect naturally to your skincare story, such as a collagen powder that sits alongside a hydration range. Track reorders and customer feedback before adding more.

Keeping the Roadmap on Track

Brands that move smoothly from skincare into supplements plan regulation and manufacturing together rather than one after the other. Confirm current requirements with the Thai FDA or a regulatory adviser at each stage, as the rules are revised from time to time.

Dermavelle Wellness develops ingestible wellness supplements alongside clinical skincare, combining GMP-certified ingestible production with the regulatory documentation that Thai FDA registration requires. For skincare brands, that means both sides of a beauty-from-within range can come from one manufacturer.
